alright. since people keep asking me this fairly regularly, here’s the studio setup for the music nerds:
there’s a bunch of other shit sitting here that rarely gets used, but those above are all the things i use regularly to make music these days.sorry no pics, the studio is camera-shy
**EDIT** — i wanted to add something here that I was just thinking about:
None of these pieces of gear are by any means a “magic box.” (Well, except for maybe the Little Phatty, that thing is pretty magic). There are some guys who are doing all of their signal processing / compression / EQ in-the-box with plugins and their tracks sound better than mine. So it’s really not about what you’ve got, but what you can do with what you’ve got. I wanted to say this because if you are anything like me, you read other producers’ gear lists and go out and blow money on gear because you see them using it, but it’s a total trap, I’ve done it so many times over the years and it never ends up the way I pictured it. And the thing I’ve only really solidified in my own mind this year is that everybody’s “sound” is a result of their approach, and has almost NOTHING to do with what gear or plugins they are using. It has to do with how they are using them. When you get into buying compressors that cost upwards of $4,000 . . . . you think you are going to get it home and hear something absolutely magic that you’ve never heard before, and it’s true that most compressors in that price range DO sound better than plugins, but it’s not like a “night and day” type of thing. You are paying a lot of money for that 2% better . . . it’s just a matter of whether or not you really need that 2% and what your gear budget is. For me personally I still lust after gear on a daily basis and drool over these expensive compressors and harmonic distortion generators and shit, EVEN THOUGH i know all of this, and will probably blow more money unnecessarily on them in due time. And that’s why gear lust is an addiction. :) Hi, my name is Wolfgang, and I’m an addict.

There was a photo of his studio some time ago in the Joey Youngman myspace. Unfortunately I didn’t save it… there was a nice white cat
